Fairville: Facing Inequalities and democratic challenges through Co-production in Cities is a RIA in the Cluster 2 – Democracy of Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation. (HORIZON-CL2-2022-DEMOCRACY-01, Grant Agreement N°101094991)
Fairville intends to address embedded urban inequalities and the challenge this poses to democracy in large cities and urban regions. It will do so by intervening in low-income neighbourhoods that face a growing distance to the institutions and processes of representative democracy. Fairville reimagines the long-term impact of various inequalities on democratic participation and will use knowledge co-production and participative democracy as strategies of spatial justice to address urban inequalities affecting cities in Europe, and two other mirror cases in Africa.
9 pilot cases (Fairville Labs), implemented in low- income urban areas, will be launched worldwide to demonstrate the capacity of co-production to tackle inequalities and reduce democratic gaps.
For further information you may visit the project’s website.
In the case of Greece, Fairville Lab focuses on West Attica, a region with acute social, economic and environmental problems and multiple challenges. The main objective is to explore the spatial and social inequalities in the different areas and neighbourhoods of West Attica, to map them and to create a network of active local communities that will take action to address the multilevel inequalities. In order to build the community of the West Attica Fairville Lab and to collectively shape its future actions and workshops, we extend an open call to those who live and/or work in the area or are involved with West Attica through research, artistic or activist action.
